Last night I did a root touch up of my hair. In the drugstore, I was waffling between colors because I wasn’t sure what my hairdresser uses for the base color. I went with warm brown and it looks pretty good. I am so grateful for a little box of hair color.

Yesterday watching a Tony Robbins video he was asking what do we focus on? Do we focus on what we have, what we can control, and where we are right now in the present? Or do we focus on what we don’t have, what we can’t control, and what’s in the past?

If we focus on what we have and are grateful for right now. It is enough. If we are still alive we have enough. They say even those of us who don’t think we got enough love in our lives, did get enough or we would have died. It doesn’t mean we get as much of anything as we want but we need to be grateful for what we have and then we can get more.

Do we focus on what we can control or what we can’t control? We can control the meals we prepare, the exercise we do, the phone calls we make, and how kindly we treat others.

We can’t control the virus that is circulating. We can’t control our government and its decisions or other governments and their decisions. We can’t control the economy and the fallout from all this. We can’t control other people and their actions. We can only control ourselves, our thoughts, and our actions.

Tony Robbins tells us if we focus on what we don’t have, what we can’t control, and what has happened in the past we are likely to be depressed. We give up all of our power and wonder why we feel powerless.

Our power lies in the now, right now this moment we choose to be happy, we choose what we do, what we watch on TV or listen to on the radio, read, or talk about. These choices affect our mood, how we think about things, and the actions we take.

If we can focus on what we have and be grateful for it even if it isn’t everything we want or feel we deserve, it is what it is. If we can focus on what we can control, not what others are doing that they shouldn’t be doing. Not on decisions being made that we think should have been faster, slower, bigger, or smaller.

If we have thoughts going on in our heads we wish would stop we need to find something to occupy our mind. Wim Hof (The Iceman) tells us we can learn to juggle starting with two items (he uses rocks) and we will have to concentrate enough that our mind will be occupied and some of what we are worried about we can let go. We can paint, write, sing, play an instrument, or knit. Knitting is a good way to relax and you can still interact with people or watch TV. Wim Hof recommends cold showers and I’ve found they are exhilarating.

As Tony Robbins who jumps into a cold body of water every day says. He never looks forward to it, but he always feels exhilarated from it. He says it trains his mind to just do it. Not because you want to but because you’ve decided this is what you are doing. We can’t wait to do things until we feel like doing them.

If we wait until we feel like doing things a lot of things in our life will never get done. We need to ask ourselves are we focusing on what we have or what we don’t have? Are we grateful for what we have? Do we spend our time thinking about the past, present, or future? If we focus on the present, what can we do right now, and the future, what we want to attain, we can use our power and focus to build our lives. If we focus on the past we can do nothing. Do we need to change our focus to change our lives?
